Having had limited luck meeting the right match in person, Abby and Bill each gave online dating a chance in the summer of 2012. A short time later, Abby opened a short and sweet message from Bill, and it caught her attention enough for a reponse. Despite moving in similar orbits in the east end of Pittsburgh for quite a while, they’d never met, but it turned out that’s all that was needed to bring these two together. For their first date, they met on a sweltering June day for sundaes at classic ice cream parlor Klavon’s, and they hit it off.

“Now they’re getting married! After five and a half years of apartment moves, job changes, vegetarian feasts, trips to the beach, a short-lived attempt at leaving their beloved Pittsburgh, and the addition of two lovely tuxedo cats—it was about time. Disguising the ring of her choice as a decorative photo cube of their times together, Bill bided his time until an unseasonably warm Saturday in October, when they could return to the site of their first date. In their original booth at Klavon’s, over a turtle sundae, Bill cracked open the photo cube and asked Abby to marry him.

They look forward to making their love official in front on friends & family this summer, on the anniversary of that first date.
